The cops are coming to my house to arrest a purse I found in the alley a few days ago. They plan on fingerprinting it. Lots of luck to them, but I found it after a day of heavy rain, and it was pretty soaked. I found a bunch of papers and address books a few feet away from it, and last night some of those were dry enough to handle.
Jane found a printed-out e-mail, and I sent a message to both the "to" and the "from." "From" wrote back and told me it was her mother's, and that (as I suspected) her mother had been mugged. I guess someone in there called the cops, which I guess is smart, but it didn't even really occur to me as something that would help. Also, getting a voicemail from the police saying, "About that purse you found...I'd like to talk to you about it." sent pictures of me being arrested for stealing this lady's purse through my head, even though I know that I am not in a demographic that has to worry too much about wrongful arrest.
And, speak of the cops! They just came. They were very nice. They said the purse was taken just across the major road from my neighborhood, and my own sleuthing had already revealed that it was somebody's mom's. Ay yi yi. At least she's getting it back eventually. No girl detective came and turned in my purse anywhere when I got mugged last year, and I would've liked to get it back.
Right now, that purse is sweating under the hot lights, learning the error of its ways.
Now that the cops have come and gone, and that purse is finally off the streets, it is time to go shopping for the missing elements of my Bruisers' Ball (Friday, October 27, at the Ottobar. Tickets $13 at the door, $10 in advance from me) costume. I'm going as Sexy Davey Crockett.
