I have a blog! Wild! I think I post on the Charm City Roller Girls blog (www.charmcityrollergirls.com/blog) way more than I do this one, but derby generates more news than my life does. Check that blog out: it's informative and moving.

Public transit story: Today I took the train like I always do, and as always, I stood by the doors rather than sitting. I do it for the balance practice, and because if I sit down in the mornings, I space out so much that I end up riding too far. People probably think I'm a real snob, but I die a thousand deaths every day, and so I've gotten used to the guilt and shame that this thought brings me.
Anyway, I was thinking about something, probably derby-related, because my little gerbil brain is usually (let's be real) not parsing any particularly deep concepts. It's usually like, "But what if we can't get the poster art in time???" or "Should we switch to 4" tape???"
The train stopped, and I got off, and I started climbing the stairs. I was all the way up to the first landing when I noticed that two staircases going in different directions met at the platform there. "That's so crazy!" I thought, with the exclamation point and everything. "! How the hell have I never noticed this weird staircase design in the past? How often do I come through this station?"
Slowly, the thought floated through my head, "Rarely." I looked around, and this time, I'd left the train a stop too early. Nothing tipped me off. Not the announcement over the train's speakers. Not the signs with the station name clearly posted, and not the gray concrete walls versus the beautiful green and scaly walls of my own dear stop.
I need a damn nanny.
